About The Artist

Jeff Atnip is an award winning local artist who enjoys recording his impressions of local landscapes using watercolor as his medium of choice. Jeff lives in Germantown, Tennessee, works at FedEx as a graphic artist during the day and enjoys painting whenever he gets the chance.

Statement from the artist:
In my quest to grow as an artist, I am continually striving to avoid clichés and focus the viewer's attention on often overlooked subject matter. I love the rural south, but I paint wherever I go.

I want the viewer to join me and notice the shapes and the shadows, lines and colors that are framed and carved by God's light.

About the art:
My paintings are painted on archival quality paper with archival quality watercolors. The paper is 140 lb. Arches watercolor paper.

The style is impressionistic. Most of the paintings are done "plein aire" which means on location. Sometimes I take the paintings back to the studio and work on them a little bit more. On other occasions I will use photographs and drawings from my sketchbook to compose paintings entirely in the studio.

The most frequently asked question of any artist is "How long does it take you to paint one of these." I suppose people are trying to come up with a dollar per hour figure. Most of these paintings take me between one and a half to three hours to paint....plus 20 years of experience.
